Atlantic Ocean!!!!

I made it. Today, Drew and I, with an awesome support team consisting of Lisa Rudzik and the all-new Saturn Aura, made it to the beach just south of Baltimore. Best part, I got to shave in the water. Thank you all so much for the support this summer. It has been such an incredible time, full of incredible people and an incredible team. I am so thankful for having accomplished this. Stay posted, more blogs to come, I'm sure. Continue

Here Comes the Rain Again. . .

3 days straight. Swimming over the road. It always lets up as soon as we get to a church, and starts up again as soon as we head out in the morning. I think it's fun, unless it gets so bad you can't see the road, there's no shoulder, and the rain running down the road makes you think you're riding your bike backwards. No bueno. But I like the rain, especially better than 110 and 97% humidity. Thanks, Jesus. On another note, they changed the schedule for the last week. We were supposed to get in… Continue

What did Tennes see?

The same thing Arkan-saw! Get it? Tennessee has been absolutely gorgeous. I think riding into Nashville was one of the prettiest rides of the tour, and we've had such a great time here. Got a little bit of a break, and girlfriend flew in to come see me and the team for a day! It was so awesome getting to hang out. Only 9ish more days of riding. I can't wait to be back in California, but I'm going to miss the team. Continue

Oh, the joy of the South

First off, to all of my Irish brethren gathering in the beautiful state of Oregon, I am so sad on the inside that I can't be up there for all of the festivities going on. I hope you guys are having fun without me (insert tear drop). I know you'll manage. In other news, we are absolutely flying through these southern states. All through Texas, everyone was telling us not to judge the state based on west Texas. Well, after Tyler, we got into "East Texas" and it was gorgeous. Beautiful riding, but… Continue

A friendly "Ammendment" to my texas blog

So, for clarification sake, there's a little rivalry between me and my friends between the two great power-house states that are Texas and California. My buddies from Texas all came over to California to tell us how great Texas is, and we pretty much compete in every way possible. Sitting here at my computer, I kind of forget the fact that I'm writing for an audience that's way bigger than my friends back home. They're the only people I ever hear from other than my own teammates. So, sorry for n… Continue

Things I like about Texas

1. The people Ok, that's a short list. I know. Let's try a list of things I don't like about Texas 1.It's like 110 degrees here 2. The roads are absolutely horrendous. No, seriously, after 2 days in Texas, I had to buy new tires because mine were torn to shreds. What's funny is that we were complaining about the sales tax to a guy at a local store, and he said that they have the best roads in America because their taxes go to the roads. I laughed so hard until I found out he wasn't kidding, he… Continue

I tried to trade my bike in for a Chevy

So, we roll into Anson, TX, and decide we're tired of sandwiches, so we roll on over to the local Sonic. After a super tasty lunch, I look up and hark! 'Tis a Chevy dealership. So, Cody, Seth and I decide to have some fun with them. We get onto the showroom floor, and ask the sales dude how much we could get for a trade in. Told him my frame was all carbon fiber, had 2 cup holders, and gets infinity miles per gallon. He said he wasn't too sure many people in Anson, TX knew what carbon fiber was,… Continue

I got hurt by a butterfly

Downhill, you go kinda fast. And I hit a butterfly. And it hurt. Because I was going fast. We climbed up to 8670 ft yesterday. Then we still had 90 miles to go. At least it was downhill. After a little mix up on the road, I crashed into Jen's back tire. I was able to unclip, jump over my bike and bail while running. My front rim has a broken spoke, and it's a little bent. Hopefully it's fixable, I'd hate to spend cash on a new rim. Alas. I like my bike Continue

Update

We got to go the the Dbacks game in Phoenix on Tuesday. In fact, not only did we get tickets, but we watched the game from the Chairman's Suite. And, Texas lost, putting the Angels in first place in the AL West, hurray!!! I cramped up pretty bad on the road earlier this week. I volunteered for sweep duty, and I think the combination of stopping every couple minutes for people, the 110 degree heat and the 102980127310489 ft of climbing lead to my jersey being covered in a layer of salt. I tried… Continue

What doesn't go with cheese?

I love food. Brian, Drew and I were blessed to stay with an incredible family with 2 of the coolest little kids ever. The best part? We never, ever even got close to being hungry while we stayed with our host family. Now we're stuck in this brand new, super trendy and comfy hotel, but, alas, no more endless streams of awesome food. Which got me thinking: what doesn't go with cheese? So far all I have is breakfast cereal and Asian food. C'mon Asia, let's get with it here. Continue

D-day plus four

Wow. I don't know what to say since we left. So much has already happened on the road. Everything was really low key until we left San Diego. On Tuesday, about 10 miles into the ride, we made a wrong turn and I signaled ahead to slow down while I called the support van. Unfortunately, the guys in front of me were stopping completely and I ended up ramming into the back of Josh. He bent his front rim and I came crashing down on top of him, my first crash in 5 years of cycling. After a vicious 5… Continue

D-day minus 3

Met with the team for the first time today. Super stoked to be with such awesome people. Having a lot of fun, and I'm sure the team bondage will only get better as we start to hang out more and make lots of fun memories. On another note, we were invited to an amazing barbecue tonight at the house of one of the pastors at the church we're staying at and we got to watch the Lakers game. Looks like this is going to be a pretty legit summer. . . Continue

D-day minus 4

We're all meeting up in Long Beach tomorrow! Yay! So I'm here in LA, putting my new apartment together, when out of nowhere a table decides it would be fun to fall on the big toe of my right foot. My toenail is half black, the rest of the toe is red, and I can tell you my heart rate by its throbbing. I cant put weight on the toe. Hopefully it will be better in a day or so, or else this whole ride my bike thing is gonna be a lot of fun. . . Can't wait to meet the team. Shoot us up some prayer j… Continue

Update

50 miles today. I've been doing some shorter 30-35 mile climbs up into the foothills, but haven't gotten an extended flat ride for a while, so i went on a relatively flat ride today. I think it finally hit me that I have less than 2 weeks to get into ride-my-bike-to-baltimore shape. I'm glad we have a sort of grace period of easier riding before we're going to do 90+ a day. And I like Jesus. Continue

Best Ride Everrrrrrr

So, I decided to stop by SLO on my wsay home from LA for the summer and meet up with a ton of friends, and I remembered that Deb goes to SLO town. We got in a gorgeous ride through the hills and down by the beach. It was a little chilly at about 70 degrees (this is the part where we make you jealous). . . While it was soooo cool getting to finally meet one of my friends on the tour, I came home to a record heat wave. It was 105 outside, blasting the old record for that particular day of 102 and… Continue

Humbled

After a week of sickness and not riding, I just had my first day in the saddle. My legs gave out after 4 miles, and I only ended up logging 12. I feel like I keep hitting these road blocks and starting back at square one. But come to think of it, I don't really know that I've ever been on any squares. What does that even mean? Oh well, when in Rome. . . I just want to be better and train. Alas. Continue

I don't need surgery!!!

I got a call from the doctor this morning that the MRI revealed I had a tear in one of the ligaments in my ankle with a very long name. I went to see the orthopaedic hombre this afternoon, and he told me that the tear really wasn't all that bad. I have like massive amounts of fluid chilling all over the place though, and supposedly it can take another 4-6 months to fully heal. Good news? I can swim, walk, and, wait for it, BIKE! Yay, go team! Thanks for the prayer juice, I'm stoked I can head ou… Continue
